Dear People, Friends, and Fans,
I've been Riding for a Reason for a lot of years. Powerful interests, including the federal Secretary of Education, want public schools to just roll over and fade away, but our public schools are worth fighting for. Our public schools need more investment, not less, and our students and teachers and administrators need more resources, not less, in order to prepare young people to meet the challenges of the 21st century. If you're reading this, I bet you think it's important, too. You know how much I've supported this event over the years.
Riders and supporters of Ride 4A Reason help schools in Oakland and Alameda to fund field trips, school libraries, sports teams -- lots of things that make school a great place for students. These are things that the school districts simply doesn't have the resources to provide. Districts are always looking for ways to trim budgets, so we have to step up to help.
This is the 18th year that R4R will be making the trek to Sacramento, and over this time we have raised more than $2 million for public schools in Oakland and Alameda. I've put tons of time and effort and heart and soul into making R4R happen for many of those years. I ride and support all the other people riding so that we can raise our voices together for this common cause. Join me by opening your wallet and supporting public education.
